TransCPEarlyWarning project funded by Interreg ADRION programme kicked off its activities on September 17, 23, 2020. The project deals with the need to harmonize Civil Protection Early Warning Systems in the Adriatic Ionian area helping countries better deal with natural and man-made hazards. The project promises the development of a Civil Protection Early Warning Platform integrating a relevant system model coming out of the thorough study of regulatory frameworks, legislation, procedures, processes, stakeholder involvement, existing systems and data sources in the different countries of the Adriatic Ionian area. This platform will be the item of pilot testing in the 7 countries participating in the project: Italy, Greece, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia Herzegovina, Montenegro and Albania. Lessons learnt from the pilot testing will lead to the development of a strategic outline and action plan offering a common vision and solutions for Civil Protection Early Warning in the Adriatic Ionian.

TransCPEarlyWarning will focus on a carefully selected subset of the natural and man-made hazards present in Adriatic Ionian. The area faces different hazards including earthquakes, wildfires, floods, landslides, drought, tsunamis, heat waves, accidental pollution, and industrial accidents among others. Depending on the kind of hazard, the scale, type of early warning intervention, and available interval may differ considerably. Heterogeneity among the different countries is significant starting from terminology to describe the hazard and advancing to relevant regulations, systems and processes. The TransCPEarlyWarning platform will attempt to help towards the missing homogeneity..

TransCPEarlyWarning will be concluded in August 2022. It is led by the Region of Molise in Italy and the rest of the project consortium comprises the Municipality of Ajdovščina in Slovenia, the Industrial Systems Institute of the ATHENA Research and Innovation Center in Greece, the Varazdin County in Croatia, the Regional Council of Durres in Albania, the Civil Protection and Firefighting Administration of Herzegovina Neretva Canton, the Old Royal Capital Cetinje in Montenegro, the Decentralized Administration of Crete in Greece, the Josef Stefan Institute in Slovenia, the Split and Dalmatia County in Croatia, and the Faculty of Forestry Sciences in Albania.
